It’s estimated that just 19% of the technology workforce are women. Research suggests this lack of representation not only denies talented women opportunities but also harms business performance.
It’s with this in mind that Tech Women Summit 2021 recently took place in Chișinău, Moldova, as a way to celebrate women in the IT industry and encourage more women to consider a role in the sector.
Our very own Lidia Perov, Senior QA Engineer within Stefanini’s Application Development Center, was invited to speak at the event.
Lidia believes that many people within her own network think that entering the IT industry is out of reach, which is why she was keen to speak at the event and explain how there are a wide variety of roles in IT, ensuring that the sector is open for anyone with sufficient determination and a willingness to learn.
She also believes that becoming a QA engineer is an excellent way to make the move into IT. We caught up with Lidia to discuss her experience within the industry and the lessons she has learned.
What are the most important things that you have learned as a QA?
One of the most important things I’ve learned is that an optimal and well-designed QA process is fundamental to creating excellent, high-quality products.
Also, the work we do is all about people. While developments in software testing tools and technologies help improve the work process, one of the most important components of high-quality product delivery is the human resource – the people involved. Additionally, for me, as a QA specialist, the most important thing is to keep learning, which means always looking for solutions to improve my working processes, and continuously improving myself as a specialist.
What are some best practices learned and applied in your current role?
As a senior QA Engineer, I constantly see the importance of a well-established QA process being underlined. It’s only by having an organized work process that I can gain insight into where there are potential areas for improvement, as well as what I can change to make the testing process more efficient, and which tools can help me. Additionally, it’s important to work closely with the development team, start testing as early as possible and perform frequent regression testing. I always seek opportunities to improve the working process within my team by using latest tools and technologies.
What was your experience as a speaker at Tech Women Summit 2021?
Being invited to speak at Tech Women Summit 2021 was a great experience. I’m happy to have presented in front of a keen audience, who asked a lot of great questions and actively participated in the workshop activities. I’m hopeful that events such as these can help boost the number of women entering our industry and have really valued the opportunity to share the knowledge and experience I’ve gained during the years.
