The latest report from Gartner® titled ‘Predicts 2024: Healthcare Delivery, AI’s Proving Grounds’ has found that AI technologies have the potential to dramatically transform healthcare delivery.
As AI-based healthcare delivery technologies approach a turning point driven by greater volumes of high-quality data and advancing computational techniques, it is anticipated that AI will help the healthcare industry tackle some of its largest challenges such as rising costs, increasing service demands and clinician shortages.
Healthcare delivery organization (HDO) CIOs are looking for innovative technology solutions to supplement human capacity and address shortcomings.
The Gartner report recommends that HDO CIOs: develop an enterprise-wide AI strategy, build awareness of the impending wave of AI healthcare solutions, and create an enterprise-level AI task force to develop their AI technology selection, acquisition and implementation. Quick wins, that are easiest to implement and the lowest cost, can demonstrate AI’s value and be used as stepping stones to future successes.
Gartner details key findings, market implications and recommendations for three strategic planning assumptions:
- By 2027, clinicians will have reduced the time spent on clinical documentation tasks by 50% through the use of generative AI technologies integrated into the EHR, improving clinician and patient experience.
- By 2027, 60% of healthcare provider AI-enabled workflow automation will mitigate staffing shortages and clinician burnout versus patient engagement.
- By 2027, the average daily amount of data collected from inpatient rooms will exceed that of the average ICU bed today.
