Steftalks : The Many Ways COVID-19 Is Transforming Human Behavior

“COVID-19: Transforming Human Behavior” provides a detailed overview of the many ways COVID-19 has forced us to change the ways we interact with each other.

We are currently undergoing the digital journey at a more rapid pace than we anticipated we would at the beginning of the year. The accelerant? COVID-19. It’s no secret that the virus has caused societies worldwide to rethink the way we move through the world. E-commerce, working from home, and telemedicine are now the norm and it is clear that COVID-19 has forever changed the experience of being a customer, employee, citizen, and overall, a human.

Instead of commuting to work, we log in from our home offices. Instead of shaking hands, we wave hello in order to stem the virus’ spread. Yet, these changes won’t vanish from society after the pandemic is under control. Rather, experts are predicting that we’ll see a multitude of human behavior changes for some time to come. But what exactly can we expect?

Humans and COVID-19

To understand human behavior, you need to look beyond the rational and into the emotional, subconscious, and behavioral biases that drive our behavior and perceptions. To prepare for changing customer behavior, you need to look at what their unmet needs will be and go beyond the rational and into the emotional and consumer psychology.

In the United States, citizens have felt the impact of COVID-19 since March, when states began shutting down and forcing people to give up their daily activities, including going into work, shopping for pleasure, and going out to restaurants. So, people adapted. Now, 20 percent of U.S. adults are able to work from home during the COVID-19 outbreak, people are turning to online “retail therapy” to cope, and ordering in from their favorite restaurants rather than going out to eat.

Of course, consumers are scared about their health, and their jobs and their families, affecting the following attributes:

  • Relationships with people
  • Relationships with work
  • Relationships with nature and the environment
  • Relationships with technology
  • Finding new customers
  • Self-care
