In continuation of our series on Gartner’s top 10 tech trends for 2019, let’s talk about the fourth trend on Gartner’s list – digital twins.
According to Gartner, “a digital twin refers to the digital representation of a real-world entity or system.” As the trend is becoming increasingly popular, companies will begin implementing digital twins of their organizations (DTOs) to make business processes more efficient. David Cearley, vice president and Gartner Fellow says “a DTO is a dynamic software model that relies on operational or other data to understand how an organization operationalizes its business model, connects with its current state, deploys resources and responds to changes to deliver expected customer value. Gartner foresees that eventually digital twins will become more advanced, “improving their ability to collect and visualize the right data, apply the right analytics and rules, and respond effectively to business objectives.”
