The use of technology as an ally in the transformation to a better world has been spreading more and more, not only in the business world, but also in sports.
It’s no surprise that Tokyo has reaped all the benefits that technology can offer to make the upcoming Olympics memorable in many ways. Taking cues from past host nations, Tokyo plans to showcase plenty of new technologies, which seems fitting for one of the most innovative cities in the world. Here are some of the cutting-edge technologies being featured at the 2020 summer games.
Robot Village
For those planning on attending the games, but are concerned about navigating the city, robots will be taking over Tokyo’s Odaiba neighborhood to assist tourists with directions around the city and the venue itself, as well as transportation and language translation. This is a sure way to amaze visitors from all over the world.
Instant Language Translation
If robots are not your cup of tea, maybe VoiceTra, a real-time translation app, is more of your style. The app will be useful to foreign attendees as it supports 27 languages at the moment, with more languages being added as the event approaches. Furthermore, a wearable device created by Panasonic can be worn by visitors that will instantly translate languages. Additionally, the company will create a smartphone app that works similarly to Google Translate.
5G Wireless Connections
Low internet speed is a nuisance, but not for the tens of thousands of people attending the Tokyo games, thanks to the 5G wireless connections developed by DoCoMo, Japan’s largest mobile operator, and Nokia. The partnering companies previously demonstrated an increase of data transmission speed on 5G radio equipment versus 4G.
