Gartner® Use Continuous Improvement To Optimize Legacy Applications Report

A recent report from Gartner, Use Continuous Improvement to Optimize Legacy Applications, states that, “Legacy applications often impede continuous delivery of value, but rip-and-replace efforts are costly, risky and time-consuming. Applications and software engineering leaders should instead use continuous modernization to minimize the cost, risk and impact of legacy-application optimization.”

This involves teams iteratively identifying, prioritizing and removing obstacles that impede continuous delivery of value. The result is that legacy systems become more composable, with components replaced with more appropriate technology or current functions extended and reused.

For applications and business leaders, an approach that involves viewing legacy applications as assets to manage – as opposed to problems to be eliminated – will prove crucial.
